Looking for good websites with games etc for preschoolers and early primary?

Posted by admin on February 22nd, 2010 and filed under preschool websites | 8 Comments »

Hello,

I’m looking for some good websites with ideas for afterschool craft/cooking club and a toddler/preschool group. Ie parachute games, songs with actions, simple cooking and crafts, ball games. etc

There’s a great new ebook out that covers really fun and practical ideas and activities for preschoolers. It also includes lots of easy recipes. I used it with my 4 year old son and he loved it.
The book is called ABC Ideas and Activities and can be found at this website.

I cant believe the first two answers i have recieved ,its a govement course im doing its legislation what are you on about I didnt make up the rules!!! thanks for nothing (the first 2 answers!)!!!

Hi Kat,
there are a number of places that run courses for young children about safety. In Victoria it is sometimes protective behaviours. There are organisations that run classes in primary and secondary schools. Below are some sites with info on different protective behaviours courses.

http://www.secasa.com.au/index.php/children/1016

The AIFs link will take you to preventative strategies in Australia that may give you some good background into this field.
The other links are to research on schools and preventative programs.

Good luck with your assignment.

What are some good websites about emergent curriculum for daycares?

Posted by admin on January 12th, 2010 and filed under preschool websites | 3 Comments »

I work in a daycare that follows the emergent curriculum. I learned about emergent curriculum in college so I know the basics. I was just wondering if there were any emergent curriculum websites out there for preschool so I could refresh my memory as well as find some activity ideas?

Emergent curriculum allows the student’s interest to drive the lesson plan but the teacher is still in control and can offer stimulus or catalyst to keep the plan moving.

MyWhiteboards.com doesn’t offer any tips or advice on emergent curriculum but I do believe that they / we do carry some product lines that would work really well in this type of learning environment. One product that comes immediately to mind is the A to Z learning lap boards. These are adorable and the perfect learning tool for young minds and small hands. A set of 26 individual double sided student lap boards with the traceable letters of the alphabet and matching colorful graphics and images.

The back side of each board is simply a plain white dry erase board. This allows you to use the boards for not only learning the alphabet and how to create each letter but on any other type of lesson plan you have in mind. In an emergent curriculum type atmosphere you could use the blank side of the boards to allow the child to draw another figure or animal that starts with the same letter.

Here is a link for you: http://mywhiteboards.com/toz.html

I know this isn’t exactly what you were asking in your question but I hope it helps a little.

Good Luck

Monthly Curriculum for Preschool?

Does anybody know any websites for guidance scenerios for daycare centres?

Posted by admin on December 19th, 2009 and filed under preschool websites | 1 Comment »

I’m a preschool teacher who really wants to brush up on my guidance techniques. I know the obvious basics, I just like to be able to look up what to do in certain situations. I’m rereading my guidance textbook but I’d like to find a website with different scenarios. There seems to be enough websites out there for activities and stuff but I can’t seem to find anything directed on guidance. Anybody have any good free website resources?

I am going to school right now studying to become a teacher and a lot of ECE classes require working with babies and toddlers, the preschool ages. So I use this website called Everything Preschool. You can go to that website and in their search box, you can type in the word "guidance" to display a few items and articles. Hope that it helps.

Do you know any websites which detail artistic milestones/giftedness in children?

Posted by admin on December 14th, 2009 and filed under preschool websites | 3 Comments »

I am particualry interested in preschool age artistic development and how to nurture it. Thanks

Like Hoagies Gifted that’s been mentioned, I would check out Deborah Ruf’s "levels of giftedness" (linked from Hoagies):

http://www.educationaloptions.com/levels_giftedness.htm

I would find books on prodigious ability and read up.

Also, GT-Cybersource has some GREAT information:

When your child is 5, s/he may be eligible for admission to the Davidson Young Scholars program. My son is a YS and it’s a wonderful thing – and FREE! They serve children until they’re 18.

One of your biggest concerns is going to be health insurance for your school. Look into your different options in regards to how many children you would like to have, how long will they be there for, age groups(minimum/maximum age). Contact different insurance agencies and talk to them about options and pricing.

how do i find a good preschool/nursery school near studio city, ca?

Posted by admin on December 7th, 2009 and filed under preschool websites | 1 Comment »

having a hard time finding preschools in the valley and their websites. any suggestions on particular schools appreciated too.
thanks

I googled preschool studio city CA and here’s a link to the results:

You might also try calling your local elementary school, child care information agency, and churches to ask for a list of programs in your area. Make sure you visit programs yourself before making a decision on which one is most appropriate for your child.
